Auditions for the 2023-2024 Season

As a community-based symphony orchestra, the Schenectady-Saratoga Symphony Orchestra consists of both paid and volunteer musicians. Individuals who wish to become a paid member or paid substitute must successfully pass an audition. We hold blind annual auditions for open seats and/or placement on the substitute list.

This season’s auditions will be held on Wednesday, October 18 2023, from approximately 7 to 10 pm, by appointment. The auditions will take place at Proctors, The Addy Orchestra room and Theatre. This is the 3rd floor rehearsal space at Proctors. Access is by the elevators across from Box Office on the main level.

Auditions are held before Artistic Director Glen Cortese and several orchestra members.

We will also hold auditions for our substitute list. Musicians auditioning for the sub list should prepare and play a selection(s) of their choice that best demonstrates their level of musical performance. We suggest preparing one or more orchestral excerpts for part of your audition. Additionally, your performance should demonstrate contrasting musical performance styles (technical and lyrical).

Musicians who wish to perform on an unpaid basis may petition to join the orchestra without a formal audition.
